Bildhuggarens Dotter

Written by Tove Jansson
Read by Kåre von Geijer

As a child I loved the Moomin books. If I ever get children, I look forward to reading those books aloud to them. However, I had neve read any of Tove Jansson's adult books until I by chance got my hands on this one. In this book, she beautifully captures the magic and misfortune of being a child by sharing short stories based on her own childhood.

The book includes several moments in her childhood. They are not all the most notable, exciting, heartfelt, or pivotal moments, but they each highlight some key part of childhood. Many of the aspects covered are general. However, the focus on her own life also open a window into how life was for a well-off artistic family in Finland around 1920.

I usually don't like collections of short stories, but I loved this book. Maybe that should have been the whole review. The book is so short you might as well read it yourself!
